When I think on Massive Attack’s album Mezzanine, many ideas and scenes flow through my mind. It’s difficult to express in words but I?ll take a stab at it.
CUT TO: Go
The low rhythmic beat of Angel rises.
Ronna was just asked to show her tits. The nice drug dealer, Todd Gaines, wants to know how far she’ll go to gain a favor from him. And he gets a free stare at her tits. Win/win situation all around.
CUT TO: Snatch
During the crescendo of Angel, the boxing pikey played by Brad Pitt is being restrained by his brothers. A trailer burns in front of him. His Ma is still inside. Organized thugs have moved to make a point. Pikey revenge is brewing.
CUT TO: The Matrix
In the theatre of my mind, the following Matrix scene has Teardrop playing low in the background.
Neo is being offered a choice between learning to the truth about the world in which he lives or taking the same wet and rainy road of the mundane. One look at Trinity and his answer is clear.
CUT TO: The Matrix
This scene exists on every rentable and buyable version of The Matrix on this planet.
Neo sleeps. In the background, a steady but soft beat of Dissolved Girl sets the tempo. We see that the search for Morpheus automatically runs on his monitor. Neo awakes as someone hacks his computer. The hacker tells him to follow the white rabbit after answering the door
There’s a knock at the door. The precognitive hacker has piqued Neo’s interest.
Mezzanine. The best source for damn good movie soundtracks. Real or imagined.

The Alias soundtrack spins.
BAM!
I’m in the club. I’ve got my shit together. Dancing. Drinking. Meeting all who needs to be known.
Damn!
There’s Sidney Bristow. Holy shiznit, she is the one. She has red hair. She must be in the tidy-trashy-punk-rock-girl mood tonight. She looks determined. I approach.
Crash!
Sidney’s crushing my head on the bar. She’s looking for The Circumference. I tell her, “I’m all the math you’ll ever need.”
Dash! Reverse smash!
She’s unimpressed. I’m on the floor. Why does my nose hurt. Is it still attached? Something warm and wet trickles down my brow. I touch and look… is that blood?
The room spins and darkness follows.

I have a complaint on this one.
Ben Folds Bizarre Christmas incident was censored on the album I received. What the fuck?
The rest of the album is right as rain.

Blue
This is for the entire Cowboy Bebop sound library. Every last one of these bastards should be bought and heard until you are “Pretty with a Pistol”. Untill you can’t hear “TANK!” without gunning your car’s engine for all it’s worth. Until you get “The Real Folk Blues”.
Yoko Kanno caught the essence of jazz, bottled it and poured the rich, creamy elixir into each and every Bebop album.
I may be over gushing about this unnatural-japanese-jazz love but it “Don’t Bother Me None”.
Jazz: For a rainy Afternoon
Bloody brillant it is. Various artists complement this two disc bit of listening pleasure. Dunc! took a chance one day and grabbed it off the shelves. He must have taken the last one in existance ’cause no one else has been able to find the bugger.

What normally happens when life decides to: pick me up, dust me off, spit on me, slap me around, toss me to the ground, stomp repeatedly on my still writhing corpse, flip me over, and then poop on my head for good measure is that I turn to the age old cliche of country music.
But since I can’t stand straight out dyed in the wool country tunes for longer than a hiccup, I turn to artist who have their roots in the genre. Sheryl Crow‘s first album and The Refreshments only good album fit the description nicely. The Refreshments have since found a way to live on but I haven’t had the pleasure of digging on their new tunes.
I only know that cliches exist for a reason and that when I’m in that mood for feeling sorry for myself, these two never let me down.

I’ve always loved Goldfinger.
That damn ‘Lonely Place’ song always hit home. Now I can’t get ‘King for a Day’ out of my head.
I saw them live about 3 years ago with LAWoman73. Been trying to catch them again but they don’t come around these parts much.
Damn that sucks.

An homage to Fraction.
I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes. I can’t stop listening to The White Stripes.

The movie was watched and forgotten about approximately 2 weeks later. The soundtrack though holy goddamn that’s a different story! Now that is a rock compilation album! Reminds me of the days when I would get mixed tapes from friends and be blown away by the awesome rock that I never knew existed. The main 2 that stand out for me is Revis’ “Caught in the Rain” and Evanescence.
Holy crap I love Evanescence. The one good thing that the Daredevil movie did for this world is introduce me to Evanescence.

I find myself drawn to Maroon 5 (formerly Karen?s Flowers) whenever it’s raining. Is it the quick pace of Harder to Breathe? The melodic soulful tune of She will Be Loved? Perhaps it?s the playful catchiness of Sunday Morning?
The answer to all those are yes. For me anyway. I wish I could regale you with an extremely amusing anecdotal tale about how I first heard of Maroon 5, but that is not in the cards.
All I can say is this city?s made me crazy and I Must Get Out.
