I *loved* that shit. First, to answer your questions: yes that was Courtney Cox in the cast, SUPERMINDS must be it’s overseas was its french braodcast name. And, yes, that music was insufferably 80s(but I still like it).
My mom and I had just come back from seeing some craptacular movie(and getting the week’s groceries. While she put away the day’s catch, I settled in to watch some Friday night TV. Twelve year old Groonk wasn’t ready for what was to come. My mom finished what she was doing and settled in to watch the show with me. She agreed the earlier movie was a crapfest. Those were not her words, of course.
The MISFITS OF SCIENCE.
MISFITS OF fucking SCIENCE, man!!
It’s a no brainer that my geeky self would fall head over heels for it and think so fondly of it today.
I’m scared to watch it now, though.
Oh crap, I just had to look.
Yikes. How 80s were we back then? It’s like a valley girl talking, punk hairdo’d, Members Only jacket-wearing 80s Monster swallowed us whole and we lived in its belly for about ten years thinking everything was just fine. Thank the gods the 90s cut that bastard open and showed us our shame.
I’d still buy it on DVD. You hear me, PTBs? We want the MISFITS OF SCIENCE collected into region 1 goodness. Why do the germans get to bathe in nostalgia before the good ole US of A?
Quick fun fact. Tim Kring was a writer on MISFITS. Big Hollywood always cannibalizes old shows so that’s not much of a surprise. What does surprise me is how some folks think HEROES is the most original superhero fiction out there. I understand the mainstream is finally jumping on to the Geek Chic that’s swept over the last few years. But if you(yes, you. the viewer) are gonna survive in this crazy, and at times pedantic, culture, you’re gonna have to take yourselves to Geek School and learn a few things.
Stop staring at this screen all slacked jawed and insulted. Walk out that door, buy your tickets to Nerd Prom and put on your learning hat.
There will be a final the day after. And when you fail, as I know you will, you’ll be forced to watch TURBO TEEN non-stop and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE-style for a week.
*If* you survive that, school will be back in session just in time for Dragon Con 2008.
