Massive Attack: Mezzanine

When I think on Massive Attack’s album Mezzanine, many ideas and scenes flow through my mind. It’s difficult to express in words but I?ll take a stab at it.

CUT TO: Go
The low rhythmic beat of Angel rises.
Ronna was just asked to show her tits. The nice drug dealer, Todd Gaines, wants to know how far she’ll go to gain a favor from him. And he gets a free stare at her tits. Win/win situation all around.

CUT TO: Snatch
During the crescendo of Angel, the boxing pikey played by Brad Pitt is being restrained by his brothers. A trailer burns in front of him. His Ma is still inside. Organized thugs have moved to make a point. Pikey revenge is brewing.

CUT TO: The Matrix
In the theatre of my mind, the following Matrix scene has Teardrop playing low in the background.

Neo is being offered a choice between learning to the truth about the world in which he lives or taking the same wet and rainy road of the mundane. One look at Trinity and his answer is clear.

CUT TO: The Matrix
This scene exists on every rentable and buyable version of The Matrix on this planet.

Neo sleeps. In the background, a steady but soft beat of Dissolved Girl sets the tempo. We see that the search for Morpheus automatically runs on his monitor. Neo awakes as someone hacks his computer. The hacker tells him to follow the white rabbit after answering the door

There’s a knock at the door. The precognitive hacker has piqued Neo’s interest.

Mezzanine. The best source for damn good movie soundtracks. Real or imagined.
