(Belated) Happy Birthday, Mr President. Who’s Gonna Sing Your Song?

It’s the performance that few dare to forget. Norma Jean (Marilyn Monroe to the rest of you) sings a birthday greeting to then President John F. Kennedy. Her “breathy but sure” attitude had all cameras looking her way. It and maybe other aspects of Monroe had President Kennedy’s eye. If you know what I mean.

National, local, and even Jon Stewart news made mention of President Barrack Obama’s birthday today. There was Free Chocolate Lava Crunch Cake for all around!*

You just know it got me to thinking. “What famous singing actress could get away with doing a sexy song and dance at the White House today?” I thought for a long while(so long that this post may be back-dated). I polled those in the know of sexy songstress thespians. With all due respect to First Lady Michelle Obama, I made a list of who should be there and provided evidence of why they’d rock that joint.

*Offer good only between 11 a.m.-9 p.m. in Washington DC at Domino’s.

Dazed. Not Hurt But Confused

I’ve been reset.

Still processing the events of November 4, 2008.

I believe Obama was the best choice for this country at this time in history.

I remember that, first and foremost, he is a politician. no matter how well intentioned, everything implied with the word ‘politics’ is in play.

Yet I can not stop thinking: this time, the president looks like me. I-I’m going to have to re-crop my cynically tempered world view. You can imagine how confusing this has been.

It’s something I never figured would happen in my lifetime. My parents saw the tail end of the worst of how the USA can treat those it deems second class citizens. I got maybe a third of that treatment growing up. But now. Now I truly believe that anyone can be the president.

Having said that, despite the previous 8 years with the soon to be ex-President, the scrutiny of your coming tenure will be unimaginable, President-elect Barack Obama. Being first is not always the most glamorous place. If you live up to being the man I saw campaigning over the last year then things will be fine.*

Expectant hopeful eyes are on you.
