US Manned Spaceflight Back on the Table. Mars Promised… Again

Space, the outer frontier. At first it seemed we weren’t going. Manned spaceflight heard a familiar death knell. Budget cuts would effectively end US manned spaceflight for longer than this Space Bastard felt necessary.

But then a change of heart.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. — Pointing to Mars and asteroids as destinations, President Obama on Thursday forcefully countered criticisms that he was trying to end the nation’s human spaceflight program.

Mars is promised as it was 6 years before.

Wait. What’s this now?

ABRAHAM LINCOLN, VAMPIRE HUNTER, Butt Kicker, and All Around Guy Who Gets Things Done

Be a slave to vampires no more!

Seth Grahame-Smith gave us Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (which is followed by Ben H. Winter’s Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters) and now he slays us with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Grahame-Smith is an author that’s too good to be true. He takes the tried, true and, at times, boring subjects, mixes them with monsters and makes a mint on the awesome aftermath. When the title of your book is Lincoln as a vampire hunter, explanations are clearly not needed . So have a look at the book trailer below:

Ash Saves Obama: Comics, You’re Being Silly Now

Ash Saves Obama

Whilst perusing a CBR article on Joshua WIlliamson’s “Necessary Evil” project (coming soon to Cartoon Network), an ad caught our eye.

Army of Darkness: Ash Saves Obama #1, it says. Coming August 2009 from Dynamite Entertainment, it boasts. Being a sucker for sensationalist entertainment we clicked and did not find the content advertised. Being OCD’s bitch, we ran to Google for quick information/assistance.

Dino Panel Perfect Detritus: Secret Presidential Powers

Imagine our shock when the, sorta weekly, webcomic PRESIDENT AWESOME produced for your enjoyment a T-Rex in the White House. The overwhelming confusion and coolness of the idea has caused a title merge that only Fusebox * can appreciate.

*Some scenes inside might not be the best for work viewing.

Gigapan: Who’s Zooming You?

While the rest of you are dazzled by Christian Bale suffering from an extreme and public case of Job Rage (or Bale Blow Out…i’ve watched too much FoxNewsCNNMSNBC). While you then marveled at the quickness of Monkeysplat‘s remixing ability. Which may, ironically, make Bale a faster rising rap star than that Phoenix fellow.

The rest of us were dumbfounded by the sheer awesome of David Bergman’s Gigapan.org‘s entry: President Barack Obama’s Inaugural Address

A photographic feat that reminds us of an older post: Gigapixels!

Do you see how the Groonkly mind works now?

Obama: The Bulletproof President

According to Engadget who heard it from Officier.com, that Badass Longcoat that President Obama was sporting?

Bullet resistant.

According to some reports, he wore a suit made by a clothier specializing in bullet-resistant clothing during the inauguration ceremonies.

While no one from the U.S. Secret Service have yet to mention any details about the garment’s structure, some are speculating it may have come from the line by Colombian designer Miguel Caballero. As we noted last year, Caballero is well known for his super tough but flexible and business appropriate clothing, such as the $7,500 polo shirt that can stop a shot from a 9-mm revolver.

[…]

According to Caballero, many of his garments offer more than three levels of ballistic protection and they are about seven times more flexible than the Kevlar vests that are usually worn. Designers that use Kevlar tie together dense strands of the material (500 to 1,500 filaments per strand of yarn, according to Slate), which is then weaved into the clothing.

This, my friends, is how you know you’re in the 21st Century.

In Case You Didn’t Know…

UPDATE: The Onion, I must marry you…or at least get to second base with you. You know you want it. Here, have another shot of whiskey.

Black Man Given Nation’s Worst Job
THE ONION

…Obama will be charged with such tasks as completely overhauling the nation’s broken-down economy, repairing the crumbling infrastructure, and generally having to please more than 300 million Americans and cater to their every whim on a daily basis. As part of his duties, the black man will have to spend four to eight years cleaning up the messes other people left behind. The job comes with such intense scrutiny and so certain a guarantee of failure that only one other person even bothered applying for it.

In the Eleventh Hour, I Turn to Shawn J Douglas for Comfort

Here’s an excerpt from writer and United States Army veteran Shawn J Douglas on why he’s voting for Barack Obama. I meant to share this days ago but time mismanagement(and a little thing called life) kept me off the ball.

Why I’m Voting For Barack Obama
By Shawn J. Douglas

I’ve gotten enough emails from people whom I have always had the utmost respect for stating things like “Barack Obama is the Anti-Christ” or a “Secret Militant Muslim” that I felt compelled not to sit on the sidelines and offer, for what it is worth, my personal opinion as to exactly why this little Freak of Nature is voting for Barack Obama on November 4th.

I’ve held back on sharing any strong thoughts on my choice for the next president. If you were paying close attention, my choice is pretty clear. In the last few months I’ve had debates with friends and arguments with strangers over my reasons.

It was the strangers that cause me the most concern. The things that fell out of their mouths had me checking my smartphone calendar just to be sure that I didn’t somehow fall through a wormhole and land in the year 1885.

I cannot stress enough that you, Faithful Readers, devour all of what Douglas has to say and chew on it in your craniums for a bit.
